Biopsy results provide information about the presence or absence of abnormalities. We use them to identify cancer cells, infectious organisms, inflammatory changes, or structural abnormalities. The results help your healthcare providers make accurate diagnoses and develop treatment plans.
Providing Peace of Mind
At the Fibroid and Pelvic Wellness Center of Georgia, we prioritize patient education, comfort, and recovery in diagnostics tests and biopsies.
With a biopsy, we’ll send any samples collected to a lab, and results should arrive within the week. We’ll discuss your results and form a treatment plan (if necessary).
Our Process
At our center, women’s biopsies are conducted with care and precision. You’ll meet with our team for a consultation to discuss your medical history and concerns.
Our experienced healthcare professionals ensure comfort throughout, with minimal discomfort during the biopsy. Results are typically available within a few days, and our team provides thorough explanations and guidance based on the findings. We prioritize patient education and support, offering a compassionate approach to ensure women feel informed and supported throughout the biopsy process.
What to Expect
The Biopsies & Diagnostics Process
Step 1
Biopsy Preparation
Depending on the type and location of the biopsy, we may administer anesthesia.
We’ll sterilize the area around the biopsy site to reduce the risk of infection.
Step 2
Biopsy Procedure
Your healthcare provider will make a small incision in the skin or insert a biopsy needle to collect the target tissue.
For endometrial biopsies, a blunt pipelle is used to collect tissue inside the lining of the uterus without needles or cutting.
Step 3
Post-Biopsy Care
The tissue samples collected will be sent to a laboratory for analysis.
A pathologist will examine the tissue under a microscope to make a diagnosis or provide additional information.

Most patients experience minimal discomfort during a biopsy. If needed, local anesthesia is used to numb the area. Some people may experience mild discomfort or pressure during the procedure, but severe pain is rare.
The time it takes for you to receive your biopsy results will vary depending on the type of biopsy and the laboratory’s workload. Many times, results are available within a few days to a week. However, more complex tests or specialized analyses may take longer.
Sometimes, biopsy results may be inconclusive, meaning they do not provide a definitive diagnosis. In these cases, additional testing or a repeat biopsy may be necessary to get more information.
The need for further treatment depends on the results of the biopsy and the underlying condition being evaluated. If the biopsy confirms a diagnosis, you’ll need to discuss your options with your healthcare provider.
We commonly perform two types of biopsies: endometrial and cervical biopsies. The method depends on where we’re taking the tissue sample. Endometrial biopsies can be done using dilation and curettage, endometrial pipelle biopsy, or hysteroscopy-guided biopsy. For cervical biopsies, our team uses a colposcope, a specialized lighted microscope that magnifies the tissue that lines the cervix and vagina.
We also offer diagnostic procedures such as ultrasounds and saline infusion sonohysterograms. Ultrasound uses sound waves to create images, helpful for detecting fibroids, polyps, and ovarian cysts, and planning treatments. Saline infusion sonohysterograms also use sound waves to visualize the uterus, recommended if you have symptoms like irregular bleeding, infertility, miscarriages, or fibroids.
