An exciting option for fibroid treatment makes its way to Georgia
Dr. Soyini Hawkins and The Fibroid and Pelvic Wellness Center of Georgia are excited to announce that Dr. Hawkins will be the newest member of the Acessa family, providing laparoscopic radio frequency fibroid ablation. Dr. Hawkins is a well-respected expert in the field of minimally invasive gynecologic surgery and fibroid management. Acessa is a laparoscopic procedure by which ultrasound guided radiofrequency ablation is used to shrink fibroids. She was chosen by the company to be the first and only provider in the southeast region offering this innovative technology. “This procedure is a game changer for fibroid sufferers,” says Dr. Hawkins. It opens the door to an option for millions of women in the southeast that is long overdue.
With Acessa, fibroids can be treated with two 1cm incisions, in quarter of the time as the average myomectomy (fibroid surgery), with less blood loss than is lost in 30 minutes of a “heavy” menstrual cycle, and with patients leaving the hospital the day of surgery and returning to work in 3-5 days instead of 4-5 weeks like many other surgeries. After the procedure patients have less pain than myomectomy, embolization and hysterectomy, negating the need for excessive narcotics. They maintain not just their uterus but their fertility too! Why should women have to choose and put their lives on hold for freedom from their fibroids. Fibroid sufferers will get needed relief with a proven, safe, and effective method. Acessa is revolutionary!
What is Acessa?
The Acessa Procedure is a minimally invasive alternative to hysterectomy and myomectomy by which gynecologic surgeons utilize laparoscopic instruments to deliver radiofrequency energy to fibroids. The fibroids then shrink and are reabsorbed by surrounding tissue. It can safely and effectively treat all sizes and locations of fibroids, including those outside the uterine cavity and within uterine walls. The Acessa procedure requires no cutting or suturing of uterine tissue, patients typically go home the same day, experiencing minimal discomfort and a rapid return to normal activities. Currently the procedure is offered in Illinois and Texas. Dr. Hawkins will be making it available to Georgia at Northside Hospital in Atlanta.
